Volunteer & Employment Opportunities
NCA Board of Directors
Like many non-profits, NCA faces certain challenges & many opportunities. A primary objective is to diversify funding and reduce our dependence on state contracts. To do this, we require a passionate, committed group of individuals serving on our board to reach out to the local community & beyond.
Electing additional board members with talents, skills, and abilities that can advance the aims of the organization will also allow us to improve the functioning of our Committee system, and provide a pool of qualified individuals to fill office-holer positions in the future. Becoming a board member of any non-profit organization requires a significant commitment, but also has many rewards.
Board members are expected to prepare for and attend monthly board meetings; provide financial oversight, serve on committees; assist in planning and staffing of opening receptions and other events; volunteer in our Sacramento cooperative gallery; assit in marketing and fundraising; and act as ambassadors to the community. The rewards you gain are many - helping to build the profile of an already well respected and established arts and human services organization; gaining a more intimate connection with our studio artists and their talents; and working with a group of committed fellow board members, staff instructors and administrators.

![]() The Neighborhood Center of the Arts is always looking for volunteers to help us in our day to day operations.
NCA Volunteers may choose from a variety of different opportunities including the following.
Volunteer at one or more of our art shows at our Litton location.
NCA holds art shows at our main Litton location featuring the most recent client artwork, with opening receptions. At the receptions volunteers are needed to bartend, distribute hors d'oeurvres, sell and wrap artwork, and clean up. Donation of food and/or drink are also gladly accepted.
Volunteer at Street Fairs or Sacamento's New Visions Gallery
At street fairs such as the Sierra Festival of the Arts in Grass Valley and on second Saturdays in Sacramento, volunteers are needed to sell and wrap artwork. (If you indicate an interest in these events a complete list for you to choose from will be sent to you.)
Administrative Assistance at the NCA Litton location
NCA needs data entry and general assistance in the administration offices. Duties may include mailings, general correspondence, assisting with clients and other visitors, and other duties.
Instructor assistance at the Litton location
For some projects our instructors need assistance to work directly with the clients (i.e. sitting with a client while they sew with a sewing machine). While these volunteer positions are almost always short-term, working with the clients is extremely rewarding.
Gardening at the Litton location
In March and April we begin preparing "Gillian's Fragrant Garden", May we plant then the real fun begins. All summer and fall we will be weeding and maintaining. This is an excellent opportunity to "drop in" on gardening days, or become a regular in this program. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Cookie/Cake baking and delivery
For special occasions, NCA throws holiday parties for the clients. Donations are happily accepted! Also, certain clients are restricted from having sugar so sugar free snacks are welcome.
Field Trip Assistants
On occasion NCA takes the clients on outings into the community. Additional eyes, ears, and general assistance is greatly appreciated.
Computer Tech Help
NCA's Computer department could, on occasion benefit from someone who could come in and get our systems up to date and running smoothly. Also the donation of any useful software, hardware, or applications that we could benefit from would be appreciated.
